Japan’s population has fallen below 120 million for the first time in 42 years. On 1 January 2026, Japan had 119.74 million Japanese citizens, about 908,000 fewer than the year before. It is the 17th consecutive year of decline. Japan turned into the TEMU of Asia. Most people are living and can afford only a simple life, no time or money for kids.
